Effects of a GH polymorphism on milk production traits in Modicana and Cinisara cows reared in different feeding systems.
2019
Growth hormone, a polypeptide encoded by the GH gene, is a member of the somatotropin/prolactin family of hormones, which plays an important role on milk production and metabolism. In bovine, a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in exon 5 changes leucine to valine (CTG to GTG) in the mature GH molecule. The purpose of this study was to evaluate, in Modicana and Cinisara cows, the effects of genetic polymorphism at GH locus and its interaction with feeding system on milk traits. A total of 97 individual Modicana blood samples were collected, 65 from a semi extensive and 32 from an extensive farm. A total of 58 Cinisara individual milk samples were collected, 32 from 7 extensive farms and 2…
Search for CP violation in D (+/-) -> (KSK +/-)-K-0 and D-s(+/-) -> K-S(0)pi(+/-) decays
2014
A search for \CP violation in Cabibbo-suppressed $D^{\pm}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} K^{\pm}$ and $D^{\pm}_{s}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} \pi^{\pm}$ decays is performed using $pp$ collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3~fb$^{-1}$, recorded by the LHCb experiment. The individual $CP$-violating asymmetries are measured to be \begin{eqnarray*} \mathcal{A}_{CP}^{D^{\pm}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} K^{\pm}} & = & (+0.03 \pm 0.17 \pm 0.14) \% \mathcal{A}_{CP}^{D^{\pm}_{s}\rightarrow K^0_{\mathrm{S}} \pi^{\pm}} & = & (+0.38 \pm 0.46 \pm 0.17) \%, \end{eqnarray*} assuming that $CP$ violation in the Cabibbo-favoured decays is negligible. A combination of the measured asymmet…
Top-quark production in proton–nucleus and nucleus–nucleus collisions at LHC energies and beyond
2015
Single and pair top-quark production in proton-lead (p-Pb) and lead-lead (Pb-Pb) collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and future circular collider (FCC) energies, are studied with next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculations including nuclear parton distribution functions. At the LHC, the pair-production cross sections amount to sigma(t-tbar) = 3.4 mub in Pb-Pb at sqrt(s) = 5.5 TeV, and sigma(t-tbar) = 60 nb in p-Pb at sqrt(s) = 8.8 TeV. At the FCC energies of sqrt(s) = 39 and 63 TeV, the same cross sections are factors of 90 and 55 times larger respectively. In the leptonic final-state t-tbar --> W+b W-bbar --> b bbar l+l- nu+nu-, after typical acceptance and eff…
Measurements of forward proton production with incident protons and charged pions on nuclear targets at the CERN Proton Synchroton
2010
Measurements of the double-differential proton production cross-section d(2 sigma)/dpd Omega in the range of momentum 0.5 GeV/c <= p < 8.0 GeV/c and angle 0.05 rad <= theta < 0.25 rad in collisions of charged pions and protons on beryllium, carbon, aluminium, copper, tin, tantalum, and lead are presented. The data were taken with the large acceptance HARP detector in the T9 beam line of the CERN Proton Synchrotron. Incident particles were identified by an elaborate system of beam detectors and impinged on a target of 5% of a nuclear interaction length. The tracking and identification of the produced particles was performed using the forward spectrometer of the HARP experiment. Results are o…
L’occupation du Néolithique final de Trémonteix (Puy-de-Dôme) et ses assemblages de mobilier
2020
In the heart of Auvergne (Puy-de-Dôme), the Late Neolithic settlement of Trémonteix is established beneath the Côtes de Clermont-Ferrand, a vast basalt plateau that dominates the north of the actual agglomeration. Within the framework of a rescue archaeology, an excavation conducted by Inrap, over 2588 m2 and has delivered several features and revealed a number of terraced constructions, dug into the bank of an ancient river bed. These are sheltered spaces (building 1) and artisanal activity zones, documented by pits and remains of occupation levels that were rich in finds. These constructions provided various pottery types, worked flint, an abundance of mainly domestic animal remains, work…
Deformation measurement of circular steel plates using projected fringes
2013
Published version of an article in the journal: The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s00170-013-5276-3 Fringe projection is a versatile method for mapping the surface topography. In this paper, it is used to measure the deformation of steel plates under static penetration. Here, the surface shape changes continuously. Therefore, it is important to minimize the registration time. To achieve this, we apply a method of fringe location with subpixel accuracy that requires only a single exposure for each registration. This is in contrast to phase shifting techniques that require at least three separate exp…
Establishment of a commercial organic hopyard in a Mediterranean environment: Production attributes and their relationship with soil texture
2023
The cultivated hops are recently moving towards new growing areas in Southern Europe, boosted by the increasing number of craft breweries and by the higher vulnerability to climate change observed, for this crop, in the traditional growing regions. Despite this clear market and geographic trend, there is a lack of knowledge about pedoclimatic needs and agronomic performances of hops grown in the Mediterranean environment. Particularly, the agronomic potential of a new hopyard during its establishment period is poorly studied even in traditional growing zones. Moreover, a restricted number of plants were usually sampled to gather the few data available, thus leading to a probable overestimat…
On Line Tool Life Prediction for Tool Replacement Strategy in FMS Workstation
1993
In FMS environment a large variety of tools are shared resources being employed to process different part type varying the cutting parameters during their useful life. The paper suggests a new methodology to predict the tool life on line using the information deriving from the control station of the production system to gain information about the tool wear.
Search for a Higgs Boson Decaying to Two W Bosons at CDF
2008
We present a search for a Higgs boson decaying to two W bosons in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV center-of-mass energy. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) collected with the CDF II detector. We find no evidence for production of a Higgs boson with mass between 110 and 200 GeV/c(2), and determine upper limits on the production cross section. For the mass of 160 GeV/c(2), where the analysis is most sensitive, the observed (expected) limit is 0.7 pb (0.9 pb) at 95% Bayesian credibility level which is 1.7 (2.2) times the standard model cross section.
